Which Macs are supported?
RecordingCat is for Apple silicon Macs with macOS 14 or later.
Why does transcription need a model download?
The transcription engine ships with the app, while its multilingual model data is downloaded separately. After you choose “Download Whisper for transcription,” the app attempts to prepare the recommended model in the background. An internet connection is required for the first download.
Are recordings and text sent to DeepSeek?
Audio is not sent to DeepSeek. DeepSeek text sharing is off by default. Only after you enter your own API key and explicitly enable “Allow DeepSeek text sharing” will saving a recording or importing a transcript automatically send text for cleanup and title generation. Turning sharing off stops future AI text requests; it does not automatically delete text already sent. You still start summaries and chat yourself. See the privacy policy.
What if a model download fails?
Check your internet connection and available disk space, then retry in the app. If the problem continues, email the error message and macOS version to support. Do not send your API key.
